Book Talk

"If I Knew Then..."
by Amy Fisher

The day she was deemed the name "Long Island Lolita", Amy Fisher knew her life had changed forever. A rebellious, love-stricken teen is caught up in a whirlwind of emotions, and finds herself making the worst decision of her life. At age 17, Amy Fisher falls in love with a man named Joey Buttafuoco who, at the time, was 35 years old. All Joey does is complain about how obnoxious his wife is, and he tells her about how he craves to shoot her, but does not want to get in trouble. Feeling pressured, Amy takes the task on herself. Fisher arrived at Mary Jo Buttafuoco's house on May 19, 1992. She confessed that her sister was having an affair with Joey. With her head in a fog, Amy Fisher repeatedly hit Mary Jo in the head with the gun. However, the gun misfired and shot Mary Jo. This memoir consists of Amy's thoughts on the whole situation. Now 30 years of age, Amy Fisher tells the world, for the first time, what she was feeling at the time and how she has changed since the accident.

I am really enjoying the book so far. The plot is captivating and exciting. Some parts are very graphic and detailed, but that is what keeps me reading. I can't wait to keep reading to learn about Fisher's experience in Jail. I would suggest this book to anyone who wants a good read!

My Greatest Accomplishment

My greatest accomplishment is being where I am today. I am proud of this because my life has had many hardships, and I am more than happy that I have been successful so far. I have a great family and amazing friends who have helped me throughout my entire life. There have been days where I don't think that I can achieve anything, but my loved ones force me to continue. Now, here I am, one month away from graduating high school. This is another great accomplishment for me. High school was a brutal struggle at times, but I am proud of myself for finishing successfully.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things..

High school has been a great memory all in its own, but here are a few specifics:

  • Chick nights
  • Winning Winter Carnival.. twice. :)
  • Procrastination Nation
  • The boxers in the locker room in Gorham
  • KART
  • Fires with friends
  • Sen10rs
  • Mario Kart
  • DENISE
  • Movie nights
  • "Togetherrrrrr..."
  • "Girls--TRIPLE UP!"
  • Peebs
  • Freshman orientation
  • Spain!
  • There are way more, but I don't have more time to write.

Where is your favorite place in the North Country? Why?

My favorite place in the North Country is Lake Winnipesaukee. From the time I was born to approximately age 9, my grandparents owned a house down there. My cousins and I spent a plethora of time together while we slowly grew older. All of our families would take the trek down south (or up north in some cases) to spend time bonding as a whole. We went boating, fishing, swimming, biking, and more. Even on rainy days there was plenty of stuff to do such as playing pool, watching movies, playing cards, or tiddlywinks. Many memories were made here, and although we all miss it very much, the time we spent there made for a variety of stories to be told today.

Childhood Memory

Many memories came to mind when I was told to think of a childhood memory. However, one sticks out because it has impacted my life in a very unique way. It all started when I was approximately age 8, making my sister 12 years old. We used to play tricks on each other when we were younger, but it was never anything that got too out of hand. We would rag on each other, and then immediately laugh it off. This day it went too far. My sister and I were home alone one night, and she was upstairs in her room. For anyone who doesn't know what my house looks like--I was watching TV in the playroom which is toward the back of our house. The bathroom is in the front next to the stairs. I got up and went to the bathroom. I opened the door without paying too much attention, and closed it behind me, waiting to turn on the light. As I flicked the switch to turn the light on, my sister was standing there, with two small pieces of hair hanging in front of her face like antennas. I screamed and ran away as she chased me in circles around my house. Well, I went to the bathroom for a reason, but I didn't end up using it. It turns out, I was so scared that I wet my pants. Needless to say, I will never go to the bathroom without turning the lights on first.
